a certain ennui … eh ??

They call themselves intellectuals, but they can’t even prevent a certain firang called Steve Waugh come down here, do something substantial, teaching them a lesson in practicality and being responsible to society.
When they were asked why most ( coz ‘all’ would sould politically too incorrect ) of the celebrity people of Kolkata refrain from getting hands on about doing something to the society, one Rupa Ganguly tactfully sidled the question, another hotshot fusion-guru weirdo called Bickram Ghosh even apologised, saying a certain ennui holds them back, and finally an unnamed tolly star was spot on, … they are afraid to go out more coz then then they’d lose their novelty value to the common people. Well, ok, but i guess people would love to see their idols among themselves, setting examples. It’s only a feeling of insecurity prevailing in the so called ‘celebrities’, … and of course it is justified. After all, what do you expect in someone who’s got a lot more than his/ her mediocrity deserves ?? a constant fear of losing the luck he/she gained in the lottery of life. Well, that’s the ‘ennui’ ( Bickram boy knows his english well, i must agree ), nothing else.

Debut

So, … this is my lappie’s debut to the net, and my blogs.

I was at first a bit finicky about how it’d be, but it’s okay. The sound quality is great, the best in the business.

Ok, the midsems start monday.

… Really cannot find anything to write.

One more time …

OK, just balance everything and you’re done. It’s no big deal. I’ve been doing this before. One more time.

Rock on !!

I’ve got this peculiar habit of RE-WATCHING movies. Simple, … if i like the movie, i’d see it again on the next day. And, … i saw this twice.

Awesome music. Acting, … can’t find any flaws. Arjun Rampal surprises by not playing himself as he does often ( um, his Rob had to get the message through his silence, so he had a ‘bit’ less to act than others … ( hey hey, i’m not taking away his credit šŸ™‚ ). Farhan and Prachi Desai are undoubtedly the best debuts of the year. Luke Kenny’s Rob was

Good to see Indian film at last coming of age, not displaying those typical bollywoody melodramatic cliche’s. There were at least two angles which could be blown up to engage in such drama. First was when Prachi sees the young Farhan kissing his girlfriend in the video, and the second one is when the Chakravyuha singer got miffed at the Magik after they lost. Thank God Prachi didn’t later ham about that or the singer didn’t have one of those typical grudges to ‘finish’ Magik. In the end though i was expecting that something’s gonna happen to someone, and it turned out to be Rob.

Anyway, great work, guys.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Really awesome.

I can’t express it, but yes, i can say i did connect with it.

The message is universal. No matter what the circumstances are, no matter how high the odds pile up, no matter how impossible and far-fetched your dreams look, give every bit of yourself behind it, all your heart, and you’ll get it. It’s the pursuit that makes you what you are, that makes you stronger. What you get is your dreams conquered, and … happiness.

I’ve felt it twice. There’s no feeling more intense than it. All the better when you’ve achieved it from a position where you can’t afford to lose.

I really can’t express. As Will Smith tells, – You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period. That’s the spirit, man !

pics only

A post-ful of pics … nothing more to say really about the KVPY Bangalore camp, except that five of us bunked the last lab visit on the last day to go catch a bus to the city bus stand, had lunch at the KFC there, and went to the Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

So, now the pics …

The prologue

In Bangalore …

52 hrs in train, what the hell, 18 hrs and 15Ā  mins late.

Doing the most unlikeliest of things in the most unlikeliest of time and in a place of unknown language …

more later, but tell u, it’s freaky.

Hi !

So long, my blog !

The summer holidays, now veering towards an end, and boy, am I not relieved to think that Iā€™d be returning to the institute. Well, I supposed to do many many things this summer,Ā  but actually DID preciously little, most expectedly though ! For example consider finishing lots of e-books, general, and on chess, and some books on popular science, playing through Age of Empires II ( AoE ) and some other games and this and that and this and that ā€¦ But what I DID was only reading the autobiographical part of ā€˜Double Helixā€™ by JD Watson, finishing some easy campaigns on AoE, and killing time playing cricket07 !

Was pretty much excited about my undergrad associateship in Biology at the Saha Inst of Nuclear Physics, thinking Iā€™d get to do so much things in the lab, but I was, of course rightly, now I feel it, told to think and explore, about the variety in biology ( I know Iā€™m getting clichĆ©d.) . So I did, and thought of an experiment about autophagy. But, lifeā€™s been pretty drab there, reading books and searching the net for articleas etc etc ā€¦

Hope to find some oomph in the KVPY summer camp in IISc, Bangalore towards the end though.

Ā

Ah yes, congrats to Subhrasis Guha Niyogi, the sole student from WB who made it tho the bio Olympiad camp in HBCSE, Mumbai this yr, and got selected in the 4-member Indian team for the IBO. Best of luck.

Same to Atin and Samik, my two batchmates, who dropped a year and got selected in the ISI admission test this time.

Lucky … no time for study !

Everything is hip and happening except the studies.

First priority is of course Mathematica. One problem fully cracked. Only a four line code. That’s the speciality of my brand of programming. Two on the verge of cracking. Well, feeling a bit cheered up now. Yep, I can do it. But the most laborious problems remain. Lots of programming and brainstorming to do. Beside this, playing ( and of courseĀ  losing ) in inter-batch badminton tourney, and coming are chess and puzzle tournies. My full aggro king-side avalanche-type style of play and king-pawn opening has won me matches with mid-rated virtual players, let me see what the reals can do.

So, best of luck to myself for the Mathematica contest. Deadline is 25th. I’m not that bad an ISI-an. I’ll fight.
