I almost forgot my blog …

Yeah, literally. I feel guilty.

OK, the midsems are over … and the intersections. Talking about intersections, now i know what my problem is. I can’t get out of my mental shell of reservedness quickly. I plan things, but fail to take advantages of  random ( or non-random, but unplanned, nevertheless ) chances that come my way.  It was somewhat a  ‘rab ne …’ kind of thing ( maybe it still is 😦 ) … but i think i ‘ve missed the train … come on, people are not machines …

What the hell … i ‘m again talking crap again. FOR GOD’S SAKE MAN, JUST F**KING GET OVER IT, PERIOD.

Well, about other things, … AoE … or rather AoC 🙂 … i’m a natural at initial economy building and rush tactics ( reaching castle age in 18 mins is no mean feat for a novice, though in Arabia Verde), though i’ve to work a lot on army control, … guess it will come from experience … and TT … with an extra bit of motivation, i started playing again , … happy i’ve got over my mental block of hitting a smash finally …

and Music … well, this thing, MiniLyrics rocks … instant lyrics download … awesome … i’m getting a fan of Telugumusic and Mohit Chauhan … the latest crush is ‘New York Nagaram’ by A.R.Rehman, … though i like its original Tamil version better … i’m going to debut in Ripples this yr, surely. Numb, in the end, baatein kuch ankahee si, man bawra or some bengali number … let’s see …

alada ( It’s different! )

In my cellphone, this playlist comtains songs that are of course among my favorites, and are somewhat different from the dal-chawal music of the respective band or genre. Some of them are known hits, some maybe a bit obscure. So here goes ( order doesn’t matter, of course ) …

  1. Kahin na Laage Mann by Mohit Chauhan / Shreya Ghosal – Pure Mohit Chauhan magic, unconventional music.
  2. Lose Yourself by Eminem – Powerful lyrics, more than anything else.
  3. Duur and
  4. Kahani Mohabbat Ki by Strings – Songs for all seasons, with the uniqueness of Strings.
  5. Summer of 69 by Brian Adams – The more you hear it, the more you like it.
  6. Hero by Enrique Iglesias – Same as the last one. Just awesome.
  7. Words by Boyzone. One of the few songs you fall in love with the first time you hear it. … “It’s only words, and words are all I have to take your heart away.”
  8. Somebody’s Me by Enrique Iglesias – Everyone will relate with this song.
  9. Wake Me Up When September Ends and
  10. Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day – Though I don’t like Green Day in general because they lack in variety, these two rock, literally.
  11. Fix You by Coldplay. I like Rock … with strong guitar riffs and drums, and meaningful lyrics. It’s final.
  12. Numb by Linkin Park. Rap does combine well with Rock.
  13. My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion – only a formality, saying ‘the titanic song’ would’ve sufficed, no doubt 🙂 . This one would find place in anyone’s favorites playlist.
  14. Teri Deewani by Kailash Kher – One of his first songs, … What can i say ? Awesome.
  15. Breathless by Shankar Mahadevan – How did he do it ? I hear he ‘stole’ three breaths in the 3 minutes of the song. Still, … it’s almost impossible.
  16. Pagla Haoar Badol Dine by Shreya Ghosal / Nachiketa – A typical rabindrasangeet given an extreme makeover. You’ll cringe out of conservativeness the first time you hear it, but eventually would enjoy it nonetheless.

Just imagine what happens when you hear this list with ‘shuffle’ on. A small sampling … in one shuffle, Lose Yourself came first, then Breathless, and then Pagla Haoar Badol Dine ( before continuing with others ) !! The list will surprise you in every shuffle.

Pritam – the (copied) music sensation of India !

Sample this – a music director, renowned for his variety, and a string of hit songs –
1. Ya Ali ( Film Gangster ),
2. Bheegi Bheegi ( Film Gangster ),
3. Shikdum ( Film Dhoom ),
4. Kya mujhe pyaar hai ( Film Woh Lamhe ),
5. Pehli Nazar ( Film Race ) … to name a few.

Dream career, eh ? Highly talented ? Well, now sample THIS —
all of them were total liftoffs of other songs, generally of oriental origin. The original songs are, respectively, …
1. Ya Ghali ( By the arabic band Guitara.),
2. Bhebe dekhechho ki ( by the Bengali band Mohiner Ghoraguli ),
3. Sikidim ( a persian song ),
4. Tak Bisakah ( by the indonesian band Peter Pan ),
5. Sarang hae yo ( a korean song ).
some others of his hit songs ( like Tu hi meri shab hai ) have also been found to be ‘inspired’, to put it politely.

Why, man ? There is no easy way to fame, my friend. Do you have an ambition to be the next copying prodigy of Indian music after Anu Malik ? Please, for God’s sake, don’t do it. You are cresting a bad name for Indian music. It’s a shame to concede that you are a Bengali like me.

We are richer

This has a little bit of background. …… After getting out in the prelims of the inter-college quiz contest organized by our ISI pretty badly, I vowed to know about the things I don’t know anything about, like English songs, old foreign movies, blah blah ……. and very much on a roll downloaded some Beatles, Norah Jones, Aguilera, Furtado etc etc. But I have a problem now, er … I just can’t listen to them, can’t tolerate the sound of this type of music. Only Akon is a real discovery, all others are, just … CRAP. Almost no effort goes into these songs, everyone can sing them, same type of music, and very less emphasis on lyrics. Especially quality seems to go down by time, before Venga or Boyzone ( accidentally) churned out some good songs, but now, …. sigh.

In contrast, our own music industry is doing wonderfully. After the melodious classical-type era of the 50’s-70’s, it survived the dark middle ages of 80’s ( the ‘disco-dancer’ type croonings of Bappi Lahiri ), and now it is constantly growing on variety. We have takers of all types of music, and new efforts are being appreciated. It survives on variety, co-existence and innovation, and nearly each new film or album of this variety-type is bringing out one or two new hits.

And see, there are many a ‘rock bands’ mushrooming, but all dying prematurely. That’s because they are monotonous, and you get tired listening to them after a certain time.

Well, well, everything western must not necessarily be superior than their ‘native’ counterparts, see ? Take your pick based on the quality. Origin hardly matters.

( No prizes for guessing why the heading of the post is so! )
