Sample this – a music director, renowned for his variety, and a string of hit songs -
1. Ya Ali ( Film Gangster ),
2. Bheegi Bheegi ( Film Gangster ),
3. Shikdum ( Film Dhoom ),
4. Kya mujhe pyaar hai ( Film Woh Lamhe ),
5. Pehli Nazar ( Film Race ) … to name a few.
Dream career, eh ? Highly talented ? Well, now sample THIS –
all of them were total liftoffs of other songs, generally of oriental origin. The original songs are, respectively, …
1. Ya Ghali ( By the arabic band Guitara.),
2. Bhebe dekhechho ki ( by the Bengali band Mohiner Ghoraguli ),
3. Sikidim ( a persian song ),
4. Tak Bisakah ( by the indonesian band Peter Pan ),
5. Sarang hae yo ( a korean song ).
some others of his hit songs ( like Tu hi meri shab hai ) have also been found to be ‘inspired’, to put it politely.
Why, man ? There is no easy way to fame, my friend. Do you have an ambition to be the next copying prodigy of Indian music after Anu Malik ? Please, for God’s sake, don’t do it. You are cresting a bad name for Indian music. It’s a shame to concede that you are a Bengali like me.

@ Nikita :
righto ! why does one need to copy ?
I think some people copy to get the “hang” of it..kind of a practise for them…to see if they can do the same… like children copying others to see if they can do it…
on the one hand, their might be something in it for them, to learn, but i think if you are really professional, you don’t copy anymore and just do your own thing to show you can and to show you’re more “mature” in what you want to do or what you can do… but copying all the time and everything and never try your own, is no good at all…you get artists that will copy perhaps one or only two good songs, because they like it, but not because they want to gain fame with it…
@ Jennifer Lancey :
Thanxalot !
@ Nikita :
But what hurts is this Pritam guy is one of the frontline music directors in the Indian film industry, and he is copying regularly. In his early days he only used to be inspired by a tune and put in some of his own ffort, but now he is lifting tunes as such !
yeah, that’s a big difference if they copy everything…they should write their own too…it’s unfair to the other artists…
I’m really pissed off by Pritam’s attitudes, claiming other people’s hardworks as his own. I’m a biggest Peterpan’s fan, and this copycat music director has lifted shamelessly note to note of Peterpan’s songs Tak Bisakah (Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai) and Di Belakangku (Aao Milo Chale). If he doesn’t want to pay royalty to the band and other composers he ripped off, maybe because he doesn’t want to get broke, but worse he doesn’t even acknowledge them as the original composers of the songs.
@ emma :
i fould about di belakangku after i wrote this post. now i like these two original songs more pritam’s concoctions !
this guy does have original talent, but why on earth does he want to follow the backdoor ?
hi, it’s me emma again. I decided to make my own Peterpan blog. This blog is a response to some questions I received recently from people who don’t understand Indonesian, people who would like to know abt Peterpan’s songs and the meanings. Please stop by, give me some suggestion of how to make it a better blog. Thanks.
@ emma :
nice work, carry on. and give me the blogsite address, i need to know many many meanings
man i can imagin indian musicians are like copying other song…shame on you indians…although i have indian muzic but i extremly hate this pretum….u know i indian industry their two muzicians one is AR rehman and the other is shankar-ehsan-loy….ooops they are damn gooood man….fuck you pretum…my gal friend hates you now…..
@shakaib :
hey hey hey, who the hell are you to say this … ’shame on you indians’ ? shame on YOUR motherland for producing such an illiterate git like you.
your comment left a bad taste in the mouth.
this is all bull shit…Prittam is an ‘A’ class music director. All these songs are available for anyone to copy and look at where Anu Malik went by copying them…NOWHERE! Prittam actually has talent and uses his ear to select the songs that would go well with an Indian voice and hindi lyrics. Its not as simple as just listening to a song and copying it. He makes the effort of listening to different kinds of music and selecting stuff that creates blockbuster stuff like the one mentioned in the article. If u go to you tube and look at the number of views the original songs have and compare to the ones that prittam’s songs do…u ll realize that HE put the original songs on the map!! People werent even listening to the originals before he copied them. The number of comments and views have increased exponentially after the release of Prittam’s songs. In short…he did all these songs a lot of good for their popularity by copying them.
Moreover, Abhijeet Sawant went to Asian Idol competition and sung Kya Mughe Pyaar Hai infront of the original singer and that guy didn’t have a problem with the copied song…I dont know why we do.
Prittam has given too much great music too this industry to questions his talent…songs like “aami je tumhaar” and “jaane kya chahe mann” (completely orignal) had veterans like Asha Bhosle and Khayyam sahab on their feet…I just hope that he keeps making his music…
@sam :
thanks for dropping by and giving your comments.
anu malik is a blot on the Indian music scene.
of course pritam is an A class music director and i concede all your points. i know copying is rampant. even the great rahul deb barman, with whom pritam is being compared nowadays used to lift. indian music gets copied as well. all’s fine, as long as you acknowledge the actual creator on yourself. i don’t think pritam did that in any of his cases, except the ‘bheegi bheegi’ one.
pritam is my favorite composer. when listing my recent favorites i find many of his songs in it. but it does feel bad when one sees someone of his own clan doing such unethical things.
