” An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. ”
- Mahatma Gandhi.
Where is the Salim group now who originally proposed to the West Bengal state govt. to establish a SEZ ( Special Economic Zone ) in the Nandigram area ? They have now cancelled the plan, and have long left the scenario. Yet, yet, yet, …….. you foolish people of Nandigram, you have now transformed the debate into a nonsense impromptu battle between two political parties. You should have, at first place should NOT be divided upon the opinion of whether to let a SEZ be established or not, but you chose to hear to your respective political gurus instead, sacrificing apolitical unity in the name of a hollow ‘ideal’ which will land you nowhere. Can’t you understand, the only thing matter to these political parties is power, domination, and vote-bank, NOT YOU. Now a part of you are driving others out of their homes because they dint agree with your demands, and the other, once go back, then after collecting firepower ( thanks to the ruling party ) strike back to massacre those who drove them out. Who are you fighting with? They are your own neighbors, they are those with whom you, till a few months back, have shared your sorrows and joys. Pray, why be so inhuman? You will realize, some day. You have to.
And you, state govt, you CM Buddhadeb, if you are only on power to manifest the vested interests of your own ‘communist’ party, then out with it. You don’t deserve to be in power, and everyone in the state knows it, but ……… well, your days will also be over some day, some way or other. How shameless can you be to let the police be mute spectators amid all the chaos, meekly becoming eyewitness to mindless genocide ? And even when the media is openly showing this to the whole state and country! You have demeaned the image of the lawkeepers, the police, to the whole country. They are now nothing but your party workers, they stand still when needed, and act when they see a peaceful protest by the intellecuals in the state, even though it is in the streets of the capital ! And then they term singing protest songs on street a non-bailable offence ! ……… bordering ( to be polite ) on insanity.
The communist rule in West Bengal in the last 30 years has made the most versatile and productive state in the country a laughing stock to the country. Nothing else, nothing more.

Do we have an alternative?
Is it not strange that in 30 years we have not seen a single credible opposition?
That vote bank is us. No one else.
Many years ago the junior doctors called a strike. One of the demands was 24 hour ECG and XRay facilities. The non-medical staff union for these two departments (yes each department had its own union) were aligned to the ruling CPM. When the government gave in to the demand and sent directives to their own party members to work a 24 hour rota, we thought we had won.
Overnight, the two unions changed their affiliation from CPM to Congress. They were welcomed with open arms, and their new party helped them resist the move to get a 24 hour service. In the next three years I spent in the hospital, we didn’t get that 24 hour cover.
There is no difference between CPM or Congress or Trinamul (which I personally believe is an embarrassment). Nandigram is today suffering today at the hands of this government. I am certain had the power been with congress, some other village would have been burning just the roles would have been reversed.
We are that vote bank, and we know only too well how to utilise that to achieve our dishonest purposes.
Yes, I agree with you.
The kolkata med college incident you told about is shameful, to say the least.
Actually, most us people do not at all want to have the far-sight to consider the ‘greater good’, however cliche’ the phrase seems, though EVERYONE ALWAYS CAN. We want to unite, only to satisfy our own individual selfish needs. And the opposition is so callous in this state because firstly all of them are bent on this attitude, and secondly people are increasingly considering the CPM a suitable party to join to be safe, themselves only. And as for trinamul, well, the leader’s whims add to that.
None but the people can terminate this chain-reaction, and for that we need quality education, education that makes us think, education that leads to realization and enlightenment ( again cliche’, but cannot resist! ).
An expression becomes one only through overuse, make me think there must be perfectly valid reasons for it.
I have no problems with cliche’s.
My family (great supporters of Trinamul) will kill me for saying this but it is the “mockery of a political opposition” of the Trinamul leader, that adds credibility to the CPM policies and activities.
Strong opposition does not mean opposing every single move by the government, (or make a drama about it) but to applaud the good ones and fight like hell against the bads. And there are many who fall for it.
That is not a cliche’.
That is a new perspective to our society, I got here today.
The reality is no longer just “do not have the far sight” but has transformed to “do not want to have it” I think you got that absolutely right.
no no, i mean by cliche’ the catch-phrases like ‘greater good’ ,’realization and enlightenment’ etc !
Having far-sight is no big deal. So the only cause that most do not have it is that they do not want to have it, that’s it.
